For this tour you need to be really fit, and healthy enough to trek in hot and humid climate for several hours each day, happy to carry all your equipment and sleep on the jungle ground.
This five-day jungle trek will be an experience of a life time. You will encounter animals such as orangutans, gibbons, Thomas leaf monkeys, Sumatran Great Argus, pigtail macaques, flying squirrels and horn bills. And if you are lucky you will even see Sumatran elephants, Sumatran rhinos, and Sumatran tigers..
The main goal of this trek is to spot orangutans in their natural habitat. You can watch them play, go from tree to tree and observe them doing everyday activities. This gives you many opportunities to take amazing photos and an experience of a lifetime. You will be explained how orangutans live and survive.
First day
Around 9AM, your English speaking, licensed guide will pick you up from your guesthouse in Bukit Lawang. From there you will walk towards the border of the Gunung Leuser National Park. The walk towards the park is already a great experience. There is a chance to encounter some monkeys, you will pass a garden and a rubber plantation. Your guide will explain about the animals and how rubber is made. Another 10 minute walk will bring you to the entrance of the park. From here you will start your jungle adventure.
During the first day of this trek you will walk around 6 hours. You will get many opportunities to catch your breath, to relax and enjoy the scenery surrounding you. During these breaks there will be fresh tropical fruit as a snack.
Half way your trek, your guide will bring you to have a fulfilling lunch in what we call ’the jungle restaurant’, a place on higher ground which overlooks the jungle. After lunch you will continue your trek for around 3 hours more towards the campsite, while looking for more wildlife, more species of plants and trees. Around 4PM you will arrive at the campsite near the small stream where you will stay overnight. There is time to relax with a cup of coffee or tea, to go for a swim and rest while your dinner is prepared.
At night time you can enjoy a campfire cooked meal, consisting of several Indonesian dishes. After dinner there is time to play games, sit near the campfire and discuss your jungle experience. Being in the jungle at night time is a completely different experience; there are different animals, different sounds and of course a mesmerizing sky full or stars. You will spend the night in a tent made of bamboo and plastic sheets. Falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of monkeys, birds, insects is an incredible experience.
Second day
The following morning you will start after breakfast a trek over 5 hours. While going deeper into the rainforest your chances of encountering wildlife will increase. At noon your guides will prepare for you a simple jungle lunch on the top of a hill. Fantastic scenery along the way through the national park will be then a memorable experience for you. The campsite of the second night will be next to the landak river where our team will offer you an Indonesian dinner and refreshments.
Third day
After a good breakfast you will discover the deeper jungle while walking along the Landak River to Uning, a small pond shaped by the nature. If you are lucky around here you can see the Sumatran tiger, deer, wild pigs and other habitants of the tropical rainforest. While the whole trek progresses you will become more and more used to building up the camp, preparing a real jungle dinner and working together as a team. The third night you will spend in your campsite on the Landak River.
Fourth day
The next morning after a good breakfast you keep trekking through the jungle in from Landak river direction to the Bohorok River for around 4 hours. In the afternoon you can relax and swim and your guide start to make a tent and after make a tent your guide will catch fish in the river for dinner And there you will spend the fourth night the campsite next to big Bohorok river.
Fifth day
In the morning you will wake up again to the sounds of the jungle. If you are lucky you can observe the Sumatran monitor lizards, tortoises and colourful river butterflies around the campsite. After a good breakfast you have the opportunity to trek again for 2 hours or just relax and swim in the river next to the campsite. After a light lunch its time for you to return to Bukit Lawang. And that is around 3,5 hour full of fun! Because your “jungle taxi” with your personal captain will bring you back to your guesthouse by traditional tube-rafting down the Bohorok River.

On the last day in the jungle we return to the village by what we call the ‘jungle taxi’. The river will bring you back while sitting on a big tube. Tube rafting is a fun and exciting way to finish your tour through the jungle.
